Panjab University students continue protest demanding Senate elections

chandigarh: the protest by panjab university students demanding the announcement of senate elections continued for the second day on tuesday, with security personnel deployed across the campus to maintain order.student leader jodh singh said the agitation would persist until the authorities announce the poll schedule. several political parties, including the aam aadmi party, shiromani akali dal, congress, and farmers' groups such as the samyukta kisan morcha and kisan mazdoor sangharsh morcha, have extended their support.the protest, held near the vice-chancellor's office under the banner 'panjab university bachao morcha', began over the centre's decision to restructure the university's senate and syndicate. although the ministry of education withdrew its october 28 notification on november 7 after widespread opposition, students have refused to end their agitation and called for a “university shutdown” on monday.sources said the university has submitted a detailed senate election schedule to the vice-president, the university's chancellor, for approval. vice-chancellor renu vig said the administration respects peaceful student expression but emphasized that academic and research activities must continue without disruption.several leaders, including congress's partap singh bajwa and former union minister pawan kumar bansal, have visited the protest site in support.
