PM Modi launches ₹4,800 crore development projects in TNs Thoothukudi
thoothukudi (tn): prime minister narendra modi on friday laid the foundation stone, inaugurated, and dedicated to the nation a slew of development projects worth over ₹4,800 crore in thoothukudi, tamil nadu, spanning infrastructure, clean energy, and connectivity sectors.addressing a public gathering, modi said that infrastructure and energy are the backbone of any state's development and emphasized the centre's sustained focus on tamil nadu's progress over the past 11 years.among the major projects inaugurated was a new terminal at thoothukudi airport built at a cost of ₹450 crore, increasing the passenger capacity from 3 lakh to 20 lakh annually. he also dedicated two key road infrastructure projects developed at a combined cost of ₹2,500 crore and laid the foundation for a power transmission project linked to the kudankulam nuclear power plant, estimated at ₹550 crore.modi highlighted that the electrification of the madurai-bodinayakkanur railway line and doubling of key southern rail sections would boost eco-friendly transport and improve travel times across the region. he noted that 77 railway stations in tamil nadu are being redeveloped under the amrit bharat scheme.underscoring the importance of port-led development, he inaugurated the ₹285 crore north cargo berth-iii at v.o. chidambaranar port and said the centre was making port infrastructure high-tech to drive economic growth.modi recalled the contribution of tamil icons like vo chidambaram pillai and subramania bharati and said development in tamil nadu was central to india's growth story. he also said the recent free trade agreement with the uk would open new export opportunities for tamil nadu's msmes, startups, and fisheries sector.the prime minister said schemes like pm surya ghar muft bijli yojana were progressing rapidly in tamil nadu, with over 40,000 solar rooftops already installed, generating clean energy and green jobs.“tamil nadu is writing a new chapter in development. these projects will drive connectivity, clean energy, and economic opportunities,” modi said.governor r n ravi and union ministers kinjarapu rammohan naidu and l murugan were among those present.
