Teachers body urges PM Modi to exempt pre-2011 recruits from TET requirement
chennai: the tamil nadu graduate teachers' association has written to prime minister narendra modi seeking permanent exemption from the teacher eligibility test (tet) for teachers appointed before november 15, 2011.ina letter to the prime minister, association general secretary patrick raymond said the supreme court's september 1 ruling — which mandates that even teachers appointed before the cut-off date must clear tet — has caused deep concern among in-service teachers. he noted that the national council for teacher education (ncte) had earlier granted full exemption to teachers appointed before november 2011, and the court's decision overturns that protection.raymond warned that enforcing the ruling could lead to an acute shortage of teachers in government and aided schools nationwide, as many long-serving teachers may find it difficult to meet the new qualification requirement. he appealed to the centre to file a review petition challenging the verdict.the letter emphasised that all teachers appointed prior to november 2011 should be permanently exempted from passing tet to ensure stability in the school system and avoid disruptions to teaching services.
