TN recognises B.E.-B.Ed. as valid qualification for graduate teachers

chennai: the tamil nadu government has lifted the ban on appointing b.e.-b.ed. degree holders as graduate teachers in schools, paving the way for engineering graduates with teacher training to take up teaching posts.the move follows deliberations in the equivalence committee meeting on equivalent curricula held on december 10, 2024, where the eligibility of b.e.-b.ed. graduates for teaching posts was discussed.based on the committee's recommendations, the b.e.-b.ed. qualification has now been declared equivalent to the prescribed educational qualifications for graduate teachers handling science subjects for classes vi to viii.following this, the higher education department has issued a government order officially permitting b.e.-b.ed. graduates to be appointed as graduate teachers in government and aided schools.the decision is expected to benefit a significant number of engineering graduates who have also undergone teacher training, enabling them to enter the teaching profession.
