Youth Science Congress at Sriperumbudur from June 5

chennai: youth science congress is all set for go at chennai from june 5 to 7. addressing the curtain-raiser for the congress at sriperumbudur, dr.swaminathan said that the congress, with the theme ‘your planet needs you: unite to combat climate change,’ would focus on anticipatory research to tackle issues such as rural issues and poverty reduction in the face of climate change. researches into fundamental problems affecting society must be encouraged among young researchers, said eminent scientist m.s.swaminathan here on tuesday.technical sessions, addressed by experts from various institutions and stalls with the latest rural innovations would be part of the congress. p.sathyanarayanan, vice-chancellor, srm university, said that the congress was being modelled after the indian science congress. with a huge youth population, focus on research and development by young scientists was required. g.rajasekaran, director, rajiv gandhi national institute of youth development (rgniyd), said that the three institutions – mssrf, srm university and rgniyd – had united together to organise the congress. ajay parida, executive director, mssrf, provided details of the congress. a total of 403 students are expected and 50 abstracts would be presented orally (80 more would be presented as posters). a panel discussion on the final day would be conducted for which eight persons will be selected. the technical sessions would be held in the rgniyd campus at sriperumbudur. the panel discussion and the valedictory session would be held on the srm university campus at kattankulathur.
