London: Britain is considering new procedures for work visas that could affect foreign workers, including a significant number of Indians.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has requested input from the Home Office and the Immigration Advisory Committee on potential restrictions for work visas.
He has specifically asked whether to limit the number of foreigners in IT, telecommunications, and engineering sectors and whether to adjust minimum wage requirements and income ceilings.
The committee has been asked to submit its recommendations within nine months.
Senior British officials acknowledge the crucial role that foreign workers have played in the country's development. However, they emphasize that these measures aim to safeguard job security for local residents.
Indians represent the largest group of expatriate workers in Britain, so these proposed changes could have a substantial impact on them.
