Chennai: Prof. Ravindra Gettu of IIT Madras has been awarded the prestigious Honorary Member title by RILEM (International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems, and Structures), marking the highest recognition by the global organization.

He served as RILEM's first Asian President from 2018-2021, playing a key role in ensuring the continuity of scientific collaboration during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prof. Gettu, a V.S. Raju Chair Professor at IIT Madras, is renowned for advancing fibre-reinforced concrete (FRC) technology in India, where over 500 km of FRC-lined tunnels and 19 million sq. meters of FRC slabs have been developed. His ongoing work focuses on textile-reinforced concrete and sustainable construction, with future projects exploring precast construction for reducing waste and improving building lifespan.

RILEM recognized Prof. Gettu's leadership during the pandemic, particularly for transitioning the organization to online communications, broadening global participation in scientific discussions. He was also credited for establishing the RILEM Youth Council and enhancing India's contribution to the association.

Congratulating Prof. Gettu, IIT Madras' Dean of Industrial Consultancy, Prof. Manu Santhanam, highlighted his significant contributions to RILEM and Indian construction research.

Prof. Gettu has authored over 500 publications and remains dedicated to bridging academic research with practical applications in construction materials.
