Chennai: IIT Madras has partnered with Tel Aviv University and KMCH-Research Foundation to offer a four-month hybrid water quality course through the NPTEL platform.
The course targets final-year science and engineering students, and those with technical backgrounds interested in water quality.
Starting on July 29, 2024, and closing for registration on July 20, 2024, the course aims to create water-literate citizens by providing foundational knowledge and practical testing skills.
Students will build a water map of India and the world, contributing to water literacy and reliable data.
The course is instructed by professors from IIT Madras, Tel Aviv University, and KMCH-RF, along with guest lecturers from IIT Madras, BARC, and Purdue University. Prof. Thalappil Pradeep emphasized the course's role in achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals by making participants understand and address water quality issues.
The curriculum includes online, offline, and recorded lectures, with evaluations through assignments and quizzes. Practical sessions will involve field and lab measurements, studying various water quality parameters.
The initiative follows a successful pilot study in Tamil Nadu, aiming to create a comprehensive database of water quality from diverse sources. For more details, contact Dr. Ramya Dwivedi (IITM) or Ms. Suzan Kagan (Tel Aviv University).
