Pollachi: Government school students in Pollachi Education District are eager to excel in sports but face significant challenges due to inadequate sports grounds and equipment.
In many government schools across Pollachi Education District, students are showing a strong interest in sports, with some physical education teachers actively identifying and nurturing their talents.
However, the lack of proper facilities is a significant barrier. Most schools struggle with inadequate grounds, poor maintenance, and insufficient sports equipment.
Currently, while students are keen to participate in competitions at the micro-centre level, they are hindered by these lack.
PETs have voiced their concerns:
"Sports not only provide valuable education to government school students but also pave the way for opportunities at higher levels. Through the 'Sports Quota,' students who excel in district and state-level competitions can secure college admissions. Continued success in sports can even lead to careers in government jobs, railways, the army, and the police. Despite this, many schools lack facilities for sports such as hockey, tennis, and basketball.
As a result, students often limit their participation to sports like football, Kho-kho, kabaddi, and ball badminton".
Teachers urge the government to address these issues by providing the necessary grounds and sports equipment to enhance opportunities for these aspiring athletes.
