Chennai: In its 45th convocation ceremony, Anna University conferred degrees to 1,15,393 graduates, with more than half specializing in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Electronics and Communication, marking a significant milestone in the university's history.

Anna University awarded degrees to 1,15,393 graduates at its 45th convocation in Chennai that was presided over by the University Chancellor and Tamil Nadu Governor, RN Ravi. Of these graduates, a striking 60,005, or 52%, were from Computer Science Engineering, Information Technology, and Electronics and Communication disciplines.

The graduate breakdown includes:
Computer Engineering: 60,005
Mechanical Engineering: 17,363
Electrical Engineering: 10,185
Civil Engineering: 8,026
Other Disciplines: 9,135

This year marks the first time computer-related fields make up more than half of Anna University's graduating class, reflecting a growing emphasis on digital skills across industries.

Despite traditional IT services firms reducing campus hiring, experts suggest digital transformation is creating demand for computer engineering professionals, not only in tech but also in core industries.

Globally, there is a shortage of skilled workers in areas like data science, AI, digital engineering, and cybersecurity—sectors in which graduates from Anna University could excel.
