Tamil Nadu: BPL Medical Technologies on Thursday announced that it will fund the establishment of a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) department at Sri S. Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, Sattur, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. The AI department will commence from the next academic year.

The announcement was made during the inauguration of the college's Innovation and Incubation Centre and Health Club, held in the presence of students, faculty and industry leaders. The event was attended by BPL Medical Technologies Managing Director Dr Shravan Subramanyam as Chief Guest and Chief Executive Officer K. Guruswamy as Guest of Honour.

The Innovation and Incubation Centre aims to support student entrepreneurship and early-stage innovations through mentorship and infrastructure, while the Health Club will focus on promoting student and community well-being. The BPL leadership interacted with students and reviewed projects presented at the event.

Dr Subramanyam said artificial intelligence would play a defining role in the future and stressed the need for responsible and ethical application of the technology. Guruswamy highlighted the importance of purpose-driven innovation, particularly in healthcare.

College Secretary T. R. Kannan said the support from BPL Medical Technologies would strengthen industry exposure, applied learning and entrepreneurship, enabling the institution to align education with future skill requirements.

The initiative is expected to enhance technology-led learning and applied research at the college.
