Ranchi: ISRO Chairman V Narayanan on Wednesday urged students of the Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, to prioritise empathy, collaboration, and purpose as they embark on their professional journeys.

Addressing the institute's 35th convocation as the chief guest, Narayanan said creativity and imagination often outweigh mere resources. “As you step into your careers, let your actions reflect the values and knowledge gained here to transform lives and address global challenges. A rewarding future awaits with endless opportunities,” he added.

Narayanan also highlighted the importance of value-based education, saying, “Intellectual education influences the mind, whereas value-based education influences the heart. A person with academic knowledge but bankrupt values is of no use to society.”

The convocation saw 1,000 undergraduates, 320 postgraduates, 75 PhD scholars, and 65 diploma holders receiving degrees. Gold medals were awarded to top-performing students for academic excellence.

Chancellor CK Birla said, “Convocation marks the start of a lifelong pursuit of curiosity and innovation. BIT Mesra graduates are poised to lead with clarity, integrity, and purpose, shaping a progressive and inclusive future.”

Vice Chancellor Prof Indranil Manna presented the annual activity report, highlighting BIT Mesra's achievements in research, innovation, and global collaborations. He emphasised that education at the institute goes beyond knowledge to cultivate vision, integrity, and determination to lead.

Narayanan encouraged graduates to dream big, set high goals, and work with imagination to make meaningful contributions across industries and communities.
