Chennai: The Madras High Court voiced deep concern over the plight of parents whose children, despite their sacrifices, engage in delinquent behavior.
The court observed that many such parents work tirelessly to fund their children's education, only to find them involved in unlawful activities instead of attending college.
The issue arose during the hearing of a bail petition filed by Iswaran, Iswar, Yuvraj, and Chandru, students of Pachaiyappa's College, accused of murdering Sundar, a first-year BA Politics student at Chennai State College.
Sundar succumbed to injuries after being attacked at the Central Railway Station last month.
Justice A.D. Jagadish Chandra presided over the hearing and emphasized the alarming trend of student clashes, citing reports of 22 such cases under investigation.
The judge directed the Secretary of Higher Education to provide details of these cases and ordered necessary action, adjourning the hearing to November 26.
Violence and Misconduct in Public Transport
In another incident, a protest erupted yesterday morning after a conductor of a government bus traveling from Poonamalee to Sriperumbudur was assaulted by a passenger. The attack occurred when the conductor warned students traveling dangerously on the bus steps. Following the assault, bus staff staged a protest, causing traffic disruptions on the national highway. Police intervened, and the accused passenger was arrested.
Similarly, three youths disrupted a government bus traveling from Broadway to Kannadasan Nagar by singing loudly and banging on the roof. Despite police intervention, the trio later assaulted the driver. The MKB Nagar police have arrested the suspects and are investigating.
The incidents highlight growing concerns over safety and student behavior in public spaces.
