Chennai: The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has issued guidelines for conducting science-based educational tours under the STEAM scheme for students from Class IX to Plus Two in government schools.

According to instructions from Integrated School Education State Project Director Aarthi, students should be selected based on academic performance, attendance, participation in major exams, involvement in group activities, art festivals, sports competitions, reading habits, and leadership qualities.

Tours can be conducted to nearby districts or other states, ensuring educational value and safety. Officials emphasized maintaining student discipline throughout the trip. Importantly, students should not be taken to water bodies during such tours.

The guidelines also specify that female teachers must accompany students on educational tours to ensure proper supervision and safety.
