Chennai: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has launched new Postgraduate Diploma (PG Diploma) programmes aimed at equipping fresh graduates and working professionals with industry-relevant skills in emerging technology domains.

Designed to blend flexibility with academic rigour, the programme offers live online evening or weekend classes, alongside recorded sessions for convenient access. It allows learners to pursue internships or employment while advancing their education.

Admissions for the PG Diploma programmes are open until May 2025, with the entrance examination scheduled for July 13, 2025. Classes are set to commence from August/September 2025. Applications can be submitted through the official portal at https://code.iitm.ac.in/webmtech.

Highlighting the objective behind the initiative, Prof. Vignesh Muthuvijayan, Associate Chair, Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), IIT Madras, said, “We are addressing the growing need for flexible, industry-relevant technical education that caters to the evolving aspirations of young graduates and working professionals. This programme enables students to continue their learning journey without putting their careers on hold.”

The PG Diploma features interim assessments through remote proctoring, final exams at designated centres across India, and optional in-person lab sessions at IIT Madras. Participants may also get an opportunity to upgrade to a Web-Enabled M.Tech. degree based on their academic performance.

Specializations offered include Aerospace Engineering (Aerospace, Ammunition Technology), Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering (Integrated Circuits, Communication & Signal Processing, Multimedia, Microelectronics), Mechanical Engineering (Mechanical Design, Automotive Technology), Engineering Design (E-Mobility), and Process Safety.

The initiative is part of IIT Madras' ongoing efforts to make advanced education more accessible and aligned with industry demands.
