Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government will review the implementation of the Centre's PM SHRI scheme in the state amid controversies and concerns, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Wednesday.

He announced that a seven-member Cabinet sub-committee has been formed to study the implementation of the centrally sponsored school scheme. Further proceedings will be put on hold until the committee submits its report, Vijayan said while briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting.

“This will be communicated to the Centre through a letter,” the Chief Minister added.

The sub-committee will be chaired by General Education Minister V Sivankutty, with Ministers K Rajan, P Rajeeve, Roshy Augustine, K Prasad, K Krishnankutty, and A K Saseendran as members.

Vijayan said multi-level discussions had been held over the past few days among CPI(M) and CPI leaders to reach a consensus on the issue. However, despite his intervention, the deadlock remains unresolved as the CPI's state and national leadership continue to oppose Kerala's participation in the PM SHRI scheme.
