Puducherry: The Department of Economics, School of Management, Puducherry University, has concluded a five-day skill development workshop on “Improving Skills in Data Processing and Visualization,” aimed at enhancing analytical capabilities among researchers and students.

The closing ceremony, held at the School of Management auditorium, was addressed by Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. Prakash Babu, who commended the initiative and underlined the growing importance of data handling and visualization skills in research and decision-making.

The workshop received 360 applications, of which 265 participants were selected. More than 185 joined online, while the rest attended in person. Attendees included teachers, scientists, independent researchers, PhD scholars, and undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Seventeen participants represented international institutions, including the Food and Agriculture Organization (Italy), Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Nottingham University (Malaysia campus), and the University of Hohenheim (Germany). Indian participants were drawn from leading institutions such as ICAR, BITS Pilani, JNU, BHU, IITs, NIT Trichy, and IIT Shillong, among others.

Sessions were conducted by faculty from the Department of Economics, Puducherry University, and the Department of Statistics, Bharathiar University. Their expertise and teaching methods were credited with significantly improving participants' understanding of the subject.

The workshop was coordinated by Prof. A. Sankaran, Dr. R. Senthil, and Dr. Hersh Sahai, and covered practical aspects of data processing tools, visualization techniques, and applied statistical analysis.

The event concluded with a call for continued capacity building in data science to meet the demands of academic research and industry.
