New Delhi: The Central Staff Selection Commission (CSSC) will make several changes to its recruitment process to reduce delays and improve efficiency, officials said on Friday.

The commission, which conducts recruitment for uniformed personnel in central government offices, will shorten the recruitment cycle from 18 months to 6-10 months.

The gap between the announcement and application period will also be reduced from 45 to 21 days, they said.

To speed up evaluation and ensure accuracy, a computer-based examination system will replace pen-and-paper tests. The number of examination stages will be curtailed, and except for the Integrated Hindi Translator Examination, descriptive questions will be removed from all tests.

Officials said interviews will be scaled down, document verification will be handled by the respective departments, and an electronic system will be introduced to maintain candidate records transparently.

Earlier, the process relied heavily on postal communication, leading to delays. “With the widespread use of email and mobile communication, the system is being modernised,” the officials added.
