Chennai: In a move to curb the malpractice of faculty members working in multiple colleges simultaneously, the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Department has mandated the uploading of teacher details, including Aadhaar numbers, on university websites.
Higher Education Secretary D. Samayamoorthy, in a letter addressed to the Director of Collegiate Education, R. Sundaravalli, instructed that all principals of self-financing colleges submit Aadhaar-linked faculty data to their affiliating universities.
Currently, colleges submit separate lists of faculty to universities for affiliation purposes. However, the absence of a centralized verification system has led to instances of a single teacher being employed by more than one institution—prompting universities to revoke affiliations upon discovery.
To address this, universities have been asked to ensure college principals upload faculty details using software provided by Anna University. Aadhaar integration is expected to prevent duplication and enhance transparency.
The department has also warned of strict action against institutions failing to comply with the directive.
