In a night of cultural splendor, the Tea House Theatre at Xiqu Centre in Hong Kong was graced with the mesmerizing melodies of Borgeet recitals, the graceful movements of Assam's Sattriya dance, and the enchanting performances of Kerala's Mohiniattam dances. Renowned artistfrom India showcased these traditional art forms in an event organized by the Consul General of India in Hong Kong and Macau SARs, drawing admiration from distinguished guests, including Consul Generals from Egypt, Zimbabwe, and the Philippines.
The audience, comprising members from various Indian organizations, was treated to a captivating evening that highlighted the richness of Indian traditions and cultural heritage. The event commenced with a warm Diwali greeting from Consul General Smt. Satwant Khanalia, who expressed joy in sharing Indian traditions with the people of Hong Kong. The seamless coordination of the event by Eeshaanee Shandilya added to the evening's success.
Dr. Monisha Devi Goswami, a respected exponent of Bharatanatyam and Sattriya dance forms, mesmerized the audience with her rendition of the celestial Borgeet 'Gopini Prana,' a soulful ode to Krishna and the Gopikas. Her performance of 'Kanai Khelano Jai' beautifully portrayed the playful antics of Lord Krishna. Smt. Reshmi Pathiyath then captivated the audience with a stunning Mohiniattam dance showcasing 'Chollukettu.'
Dr. Goswami's Sattriya dance 'Tumi Hari Raxero Sagara' masterfully depicted the nine Rasas in a single mesmerizing composition. The performance by Smt. Reshmi, portraying Ma Parvathi embodying the five elements through the dramatic enactment of Parvathi defeating Mahisha, displayed her exceptional artistry through expressive Abhinaya.
The event culminated with the Consul General honoring the artists, capturing the essence of cultural exchange and mutual appreciation. As the evening drew to a close, memories were immortalized through the lens of countless photographs, marking a celebration of India's rich cultural tapestry in the heart of Hong Kong.
The day preceding the cultural extravaganza, a workshop was conducted by the esteemed artists, shedding light on the intricacies of Borgeet, Sattriya, and Mohiniattam dances. This educational session drew the enthusiastic participation of both local Chinese residents and members of the Hong Kong Indian community, fostering a spirit of cross-cultural exchange and mutual learning.
