BIS Chennai holds capsule course on safety of electrical appliances
chennai: the bureau of indian standards (bis) organised a two-day capsule course on the safety of electrical appliances under is 302 (part 1) at its southern regional office here on september 25-26, aimed at strengthening industry compliance with safety norms.the training, conducted by the chennai branch office (cnbo), was part of bis's bi-monthly capsule course initiative. a total of 21 quality control personnel from different industries participated.the sessions were led by sreejith mohan, scientist-d, cnbo, who detailed the requirements of is 302 (part 1), the product manual, and the standard implementation tool (sit). group exercises and workshops were also held to help participants understand the provisions of the standard and their practical application in the industry.on the second day, participants visited the bis southern regional laboratory (srl), chennai. dhinesh rajagopalan l, scientist-d, along with laboratory personnel, demonstrated testing methodologies prescribed under is 302 (part 1). the hands-on exposure allowed participants to directly observe the testing processes required for ensuring compliance.the programme concluded with an interactive feedback session where participants appreciated the practical approach adopted in the training. certificates were distributed by senior bis officials.bis, the national standards body under the ministry of consumer affairs, is engaged in formulating standards, product and system certification, hallmarking, and laboratory testing to safeguard consumer interests and support industry.
