as silicon valley faces economic challenges and job cuts, it's affecting the tech industry in india too. big tech companies like google, amazon, meta, and apple are reducing their hiring, and there's a possibility they might stop hiring in the future.a recent report from the economic times reveals that these tech giants are slowing down hiring in india due to the global economic slowdown. job postings by these companies have dropped by 90% compared to 2022, according to data from xpheno, a staffing firm. currently, these companies have only around 200 job openings in india, which is a 98% decrease from their usual hiring levels.the hiring slowdown by major tech companies is happening because the entire industry is facing tough times. the global economy is slowing down, and companies are working hard to increase revenues, make changes to their structure, and deal with project delays.prasadh ms, head of workforce research at xpheno, mentioned that the hiring pause by top companies is a warning for smaller companies to be cautious. he also noted that maintaining the current situation requires replacement hiring, with no significant addition of new talent.it analysts and experts expect a careful approach to hiring for the next two quarters due to lower demand and a focus on making better use of existing employees.the data shows that the economic slowdown and concerns about a possible recession have significantly affected the tech sector, leading to a sharp decline in hiring. by december 2022, demand from major tech companies had fallen by 78% compared to july, reaching a 1.5-year low.the report also highlights that globally, big tech companies like microsoft, amazon, and google have cut hundreds of thousands of jobs. despite having almost 150,000 employees in india, major tech giants are slowing down hiring in 2023.rishi jhunjhunwala, senior vice-president covering it at iifl securities, is cautiously optimistic, saying, "hiring should slowly start picking up in 2024 as some of the overhiring from 2023 gets adjusted. while the growth outlook hasn't fully recovered, there are signs of gradual improvement in the coming year."source: india today (excerpts)
