MAHE inaugurates Research-based Incubation Facility
karnataka: manipal academy of higher education (mahe) and vision karnataka foundation (vkf) have launched a research-based incubation program for geographical indications (gis) tagged products in manipal, karnataka. the program aims to support livelihood clusters around udupi, focusing on communities related to udupi mattu gulla and shankarpura (udupi) mallige. vkf, in partnership with mahe, is providing the first-of-its-kind incubation facility, addressing barriers for gi clusters at the grassroots level. the initiative covers product design, branding, legal aspects, and plans to expand to 48 gis in karnataka over the next two years. vkf, associated with the department of commerce, mahe, aims to enhance product quality, marketability, and income generation for gi farmers. the sustainable development goals coordination centre and vivesvaraya trade promotion centre are also involved, emphasizing the promotion of traditional industries. mahe views this collaboration as a significant step in sustainable development and community empowerment, aligning with its commitment to societal service. the incubation program focuses on udupi mattu gulla brinjal and udupi jasmine initially and aims to expand to other gis in karnataka.
