Over 81,000 apply for RTE admission in Tamil Nadu
chennai: more than 81,000 students have applied for admission under the right to education (rte) act in tamil nadu for the current academic year, the school education department said on thursday.according to secretary chandramohan, following a court order, the central government has released funds to enable admission of students from economically weaker sections to 25 percent of seats in private schools. a total of 7,717 schools have opted to participate in the scheme.for this year, 81,927 students applied for lkg admission and 89 for class i. in schools where the number of applicants is less than the 25 percent quota, admissions will be conducted on october 30. in schools with applications exceeding the quota, admissions will be held via a lottery on october 31, in the presence of headmasters and parents.priority will be given to children from marginalized groups including the destitute, hiv-affected families, transgender children, sanitation workers' families, and differently-abled students.
