Rescued Child labourers turn as achievers

c sankar, who was rescued from a brick kiln in  krishnagiri and underwent  education at a special school for such children before joining a regular school had scored 1118 marks out of 1200 in class xii exams, the results for which were announced recently. 'kokila, who was employed in a rope-making unit in salem, scored 1027 marks while mayakannan, rescued from the matches industry in virudhunagar, passed out with 1024 marks in the exams,' anbarasan said . according to a special national scheme being implemented in the state, child labourers were rescued and admitted to special schools for two years before being sent to regular schools for education, he said. the national scheme was being implemented in 17 districts in the state. similarly, n meena and m ramlingam, employed in agarbathi-making and weaving scored 471 and 470 marks respectively, in class x exams.  he added, that more than 40 students had scored in excess of 400 out of 500 marks. many persons rescued as child labourers and imparted education with government aid were now serving as teachers and police officers among others, he said. as part of their rehabilitation, the rescued children were being offered free education and bus pass, he said.
