new delhi/chennai: vice president c p radhakrishnan on tuesday said tamil is receiving its rightful place of honour and continued national support.ina video message for the fourth edition of the kashi tamil sangamam, he welcomed this year's theme, 'let us learn tamil', which he said reinforces linguistic and cultural harmony.he appreciated the initiative under which 50 hindi-speaking tamil teachers and coordinators trained by the central institute of classical tamil in chennai have arrived in varanasi to teach basic tamil to more than 1,500 students across 50 government and private schools over 15 days.radhakrishnan said the kashi tamil sangamam, launched in 2022, has evolved into a major national platform uniting the culture of the ganga with the traditions of the cauvery, symbolising north-south cultural unity.he recalled prime minister narendra modi's remarks in the november 30 'mann ki baat' broadcast, describing the sangamam as a confluence of one of the world's oldest languages and one of its oldest cities, with tamil being “the pride of india”.he highlighted the symbolic agathiyar yatra from tenkasi to kashi from december 2 to 10, tracing ancient cultural links established during the time of pandya king athiveera parakrama pandian.he also welcomed an initiative that will see 300 uttar pradesh students visit leading institutions in tamil nadu, deepening two-way cultural exchange.describing the sangamam as an embodiment of 'ek bharat, shreshtha bharat', he said kashi and tamil nadu stand as radiant lamps of india's civilisation.quoting poet subramania bharathi, he said the “divine sound of tamil” echoing in kashi is a moment of pride for tamils.he thanked the ministry of education, the uttar pradesh government and central ministries for supporting the event.“concluding the fourth kashi tamil sangamam in rameswaram reflects the deep, centuries-old bond between the kashi viswanathar and ramanathaswamy temples,” he said. “may this bond grow stronger for thousands of years.”
