Three IIT Madras professors win Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025
chennai: three professors from the indian institute of technology madras (iit madras) have been selected for the rashtriya vigyan puraskar 2025, the nation's highest recognition for exceptional contributions in science, technology, and innovation.the awardees include prof. thalappil pradeep (department of chemistry), who received the vigyan shri award, and prof. mohanasankar sivaprakasam (department of electrical engineering) and prof. shweta prem agrawal (department of computer science and engineering), who were honoured under the vigyan yuva - shanti swarup bhatnagar category.congratulating the recipients, iit madras director prof. v. kamakoti said the recognition reflected the institute's spirit of innovation and its commitment to advancing science and technology for national development.prof. pradeep, a padma shri awardee, was honoured for his pioneering work in clean water technologies and advanced materials, which has led to affordable purification systems benefiting millions across india.prof. sivaprakasam, who heads the sudha gopalakrishnan brain centre and the healthcare technology innovation centre, was recognised for developing affordable healthcare technologies and large-scale human brain imaging platforms.prof. agrawal, the venky harinarayan and anand rajaraman chair professor, was recognised for her pathbreaking research in cryptography and post-quantum encryption, enabling secure computation and data privacy.the rashtriya vigyan puraskar, instituted by the government of india, honours exemplary achievements across 13 scientific and technological domains under four categories—vigyan ratna, vigyan shri, vigyan yuva, and vigyan team.
