TNEA 2023 sees substantial increase in seat filling; reflects increase in demand for Engineering

that is, out of the 1, 44,652 seats available, 94,138 seats (65.08%) have been filled.   the data showed notable increase in students selecting engineering when compared to the last five years, suggests a growing interest among students in pursuing engineering studies. in the final third round of tnea 2023, a total of 44,431 students received seat allotments, including 1,410 students from previous rounds. 50,514 seats remained vacant at the conclusion of academic counseling, marking a significant improvement compared to the previous year when 55,846 seats were vacant at the same stage, excluding vocational and 7.5% government quota seats.the analysis revealed that 11 colleges failed to fill a single seat this year, whereas 14 colleges faced this challenge in the last year.the data revealed with a seat filling rate of 65.08% this year compared to 59.90% in the previous year at the end of the fourth round of counseling indicate a substantial increase in students' desire to pursue engineering degrees.furthermore, 68 colleges managed to fill over 95% of their seats, while 104 colleges exceeded the 90% seat filling mark. unfortunately, 61 colleges struggled, filling less than 10% of their seats, and 37 colleges admitted fewer than 10 students, demonstrating single-digit admissions.computer science, aids, ece, and it were the most preferred choices among students. in contrast, mechanical and civil engineering were the least preferred core engineering choices among students.several top institutions, including anna university's ceg campus, the school of architecture and planning, and the mit campus, filled 100% seats. other reputed institutions such as psg college of technology, gct coimbatore, and ac tech campus also did significantly well. in conclusion, the tnea 2023 third round analysis shows a significant increase in student interest in engineering courses, resulting in a record-high seat filling rate.
