Women dominate primary teaching in Delhi with 415 female teachers per 100 male: Govt report
new delhi: women continue to dominate the teaching profession in delhi, particularly at the primary level, with 415 female teachers for every 100 male teachers recorded during 2024-25, according to a delhi government report.the findings are part of the report titled 'women and men in delhi-2025', released by the directorate of economics and statistics. it highlights a steady rise in women's participation in the education sector over the past decade.at the primary level, the number of female teachers per 100 male teachers increased from 363 in 2012-13 to 415 in 2024-25. at the upper primary level, the ratio rose from 214 to 261 during the same period, while at the higher secondary level it increased from 152 to 168, the report said.female enrolment in higher education in the national capital also showed marginal improvement, rising from 49.08 per cent in 2022-23 to 50.57 per cent in 2023-24.the report further noted an increase in the number of female students per 100 male students across various courses in the regular education mode between 2013-14 and 2021-22. these figures rose from 98 to 106 in m phil courses, 82 to 102 in postgraduate programmes, 100 to 110 in undergraduate courses, 53 to 67 in pg diploma courses and 57 to 79 in diploma programmes.however, despite gains in education, women's participation in the workforce remained significantly lower than men. data from the periodic labour force survey showed the worker population ratio in delhi stood at 52.8 per cent for men and just 14.2 per cent for women in 2023-24. the corresponding national figures were 56.4 per cent and 30.7 per cent, respectively.similarly, the labour force participation rate in delhi was 54 per cent for men and 14.5 per cent for women.
