Tirupathur: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Chennai Branch Office, launched a two-day Mentor Reinforcement Training Programme on 'Learning Science via Standards' for science teachers mentoring Standards Clubs in Tirupathur district.

The programme began on Tuesday and will conclude on July 23.

Inaugurating the session, BIS Chennai Director and Scientist-E, D. Jeevanandam, said the initiative aims to enhance scientific learning by linking classroom concepts with real-world applications through standards. He highlighted the use of specially curated BIS Lesson Plans to demonstrate scientific principles in everyday products and practices.

He also introduced a new monthly quiz competition exclusively for Standards Club students to further engage them in quality learning.

Chief Educational Officer of Tirupathur, R. Punniyakotti, delivered the keynote address and underscored the significance of standards in national development. He emphasized the need for academic institutions to actively promote awareness of quality and compliance. Punniyakotti lauded the formation of Standards Clubs in schools and colleges as a meaningful initiative to foster critical thinking and experiential learning among students.

The training sessions, led by BIS resource persons Sundar Jogin S and Koushik Sasitharan, covered BIS's key activities including standardization, certification, testing, and academic outreach.

Around 35 science teachers participated in the programme.

The event is part of BIS's broader effort to integrate quality and standardization education into the school system through interactive and project-based learning.
