Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurates laptop manufacturing plant in Chennai

chennai: in a major boost to india's electronics manufacturing sector, union minister for electronics and it, railways, and information & broadcasting ashwini vaishnaw inaugurated sirma sgs's state-of-the-art laptop manufacturing plant in chennai today. located in the chennai export processing zone (mepz), the facility marks a significant step in strengthening india's it hardware production capabilities.established under the pli 2.0 scheme for it hardware manufacturing, the plant has been set up in collaboration with taiwan-based micro-star international (msi), a globally renowned technology company. this initiative aligns with india's vision of becoming self-reliant in high-end it hardware manufacturing, building on its success in mobile phone production.the plant will initially produce 1,00,000 laptops per year, with plans to scale up to one million units annually within the next two years, based on market demand. the expansion is expected to generate 150 to 200 additional jobs by fy26, contributing to local employment and economic growth.speaking at the event, ashwini vaishnaw emphasized that india's commitment to manufacturing world-class products under the make in india initiative is yielding results. he highlighted that increased domestic production will enhance employment opportunities and position india as a key player in the global it hardware market.the inauguration of this facility underscores india's growing role in the global electronics supply chain, showcasing its capability to manufacture high-quality laptops for international markets.
