IIT Madras partners with French University for Sustainable Biomanufacturing Course

chennai: indian institute of technology madras (iit madras) has collaborated with the university of tours, france, to offer a course on 'sustainable bio-manufacturing of high-value phytochemicals.' this program aligns with the government of india's 'bioe3' policy, which promotes large-scale, high-performance biomanufacturing for sustainable development.offered under the global initiative of academic networks (gian), the course covers the use of plant and microbial biofactories to produce high-value phytochemicals. it addresses the growing market demand for natural products used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and other industries while preserving nature. open to researchers, industry professionals, and students in fields such as biotechnology and plant bioprocess engineering, the course aims to enhance skills in sustainable biomanufacturing.the course, held from 2nd to 14th december 2024, offers 30 seats for in-person participation. participants should have a basic understanding of plant and microbial cell technologies.highlighting its importance, prof. smita srivastava of iit madras emphasized that this course builds capacity and innovation, crucial for making india a global hub for phytochemical production. registration is open until 22nd november 2024.
