IIT Madras to open research labs for public view

chennai: indian institute of technology madras (iit madras) is inviting the public to explore its advanced research facilities during the open house 2025, scheduled for january 3-4, 2025. this initiative is part of the institute's vision of "annaivarakum iitm" (iit madras for all) and coincides with the opening days of its annual technical festival, shaastra 2025.visitors will have access to over 60 interactive stalls featuring groundbreaking research, projects, and live demonstrations. additionally, they can tour four national research centers, 11 institute research centers, 15 centers of excellence, and more than 90 advanced laboratories.highlighting the event's significance, prof. sathyanarayana n gummadi, dean (students), said, “this is a unique opportunity to visit iit madras and its state-of-the-art labs, inspiring the young generation and showcasing the institute's vibrant research ecosystem.”the event anticipates a footfall of over 60,000 visitors and marks a significant outreach effort by iit madras. registrations are open until december 25, 2024, through shaastra.org/open-house.encouraging participation, dr. murugaiyan amirthalingam, advisor - co-curricular, said, “this open house provides firsthand experience of our world-class facilities across 18 departments and 45+ research centers. we welcome everyone to witness our innovations and green campus.”
