Ministry of Culture Launches Scholarships for Young Artists
delhi : the ministry of culture has announced the launch of the 'scholarships to young artists in different cultural fields (sya)' scheme, designed to support emerging talents in various traditional art forms. the scheme will provide ₹5,000 per month to up to 400 selected scholars for a duration of two years, with the amount distributed in four six-monthly instalments.to be eligible, candidates must be aged between 18 and 25 and have completed at least five years of training under a recognized guru or institution. selection will be based on an interview with an expert committee.since its inception, the sya scheme has provided substantial support across various states. over the past five years, the scheme's funding varied, with allocations of ₹12.30 crores in 2019-20, rising to ₹23.68 crores in 2022-23, and reducing to ₹16.22 crores in 2023-24. the funding is part of the broader 'scheme of scholarship and fellowship for promotion of art and culture.'recognized cultural fields under this scholarship include indian classical music, dance, theatre, visual arts, and folk arts. detailed figures on the number of scholarships awarded and funds utilized in different states, including andhra pradesh, are available. union minister for culture and tourism, gajendra singh shekhawat, shared these details in a written reply to the lok sabha.
