NINs health campaign reaches 1,500 elderly
delhi: marking the 7th naturopathy day, the national institute of naturopathy (nin), under the ministry of ayush, launched a nationwide campaign themed 'healthy ageing and longevity.' the initiative underscores gandhian principles of nature cure, focusing on sustainable living and preventive healthcare for india's elderly, a demographic set to grow from 153 million to 347 million by 2050.the campaign promotes good nutrition, healthy lifestyles, and mental well-being, while addressing challenges posed by environmental health hazards. it emphasizes reconnecting with nature and building community bonds to improve overall health.health camps organized at 35 old age homes in and around pune reached 1,500 elderly participants, offering yoga sessions, naturopathy treatments, and health discussions. prof. (dr.) satya lakshmi, nin director, highlighted the initiative's focus on tackling the social and emotional challenges faced by senior citizens in nuclear family setups. schoolchildren were also involved to foster empathy toward elders.under the campaign's motto, 'turn to nature for physical health' and 'return to community for emotional and mental health,' nin announced an inter-collegiate intellectual meet in january 2025, promoting knowledge exchange among 500 students nationwide.naturopathy day, declared in 2018, commemorates mahatma gandhi's leadership in nature cure advocacy.
