CBSE limits second round of Class 10 public exam to three subjects

chennai: the central board of secondary education (cbse) has announced that students appearing for the second phase of the class 10 public examination will be permitted to write only three subjects.as part of the implementation of the national education policy (nep), cbse had earlier stated that class 10 board examinations would be conducted twice a year. however, detailed guidelines were awaited. at an online meeting held on monday, cbse officials clarified doubts raised by principals of affiliated schools regarding the revised assessment framework.responding to a question on the two-phase examination system, cbse chairman rahul singh said the first board examination for class 10 in 2026 will be held in february-march and will be mandatory for all students. the second examination, scheduled for may, is optional and meant for students aiming to improve their scores for admission to professional courses.he said the second examination will focus on key subjects, with science, mathematics and social science treated as core papers, while language papers will remain optional. students opting for the second round will be allowed to appear for a maximum of three subjects.results of the second-phase examination will be released within a month, singh added.
