Centenary Celebrations of MS Swaminathan to Begin on July 31 in Chennai
chennai: the centenary celebrations of professor m s swaminathan, renowned agricultural scientist and architect of india's green revolution, will commence on july 31 in chennai ahead of a national event in new delhi from august 7 to 9.the inaugural event in chennai, to be held at the press information office from 3 pm to 5 pm, will be formally launched by the prime minister narendra modi in new delhi. the year-long celebration is themed “green revolution - a bio-based path to happiness”.the initiative is being organised by the union ministry of agriculture and farmers welfare in collaboration with the indian institute of agriculture, indian council of agricultural research, national institute of agricultural sciences and the m s swaminathan research foundation (mssrf).the programme will bring together scientists, policymakers, farmers, youth, women leaders and development practitioners to commemorate prof swaminathan's contribution to sustainable agriculture, food security and climate-resilient farming. sessions will highlight biodiversity, nutrition, health, gender equity and the role of youth in sustainable development.dr soumya swaminathan, chairperson of mssrf, will deliver a keynote address reflecting on her father's legacy. a q&a session on organic farming will also be held.special thematic conferences involving national institutions and domain experts will follow.
