Dont enrol in unrecognised medical colleges, warns NMC

chennai: the national medical commission (nmc) has cautioned students against seeking admission in unrecognised medical colleges, either in india or abroad, warning that such admissions are not legally valid.inan official statement, raghav langer, secretary, nmc, said that approval from the commission is mandatory for any institution to offer medical education. "some colleges have been found admitting students without the necessary permissions. such admissions are illegal and action has already been initiated against singhania university in rajasthan," he said.the commission also raised concerns over misleading claims being made to students about studying medicine abroad and returning to practise in india. “students must be aware that to register as medical practitioners in india after studying abroad, they must fulfil several requirements—such as qualifying a screening test, completing an internship, and meeting standards related to the curriculum and medium of instruction,” langer noted.the nmc urged aspirants to verify the recognition status of medical institutions via its official website before applying. it further requested the public to report instances of unrecognised colleges inviting admissions. complaints can be submitted via email at nmc.org.inor by contacting 011-2536 7033.
