Explained: How NCERT textbooks are developed through multi-level expert review
new delhi: the process of preparing textbooks by the national council of educational research and training (ncert) involves multiple stages of expert consultation, drafting, and review to ensure academic accuracy and age-appropriate content, officials said.according to ncert, textbook development is not handled by a single author but involves contributions from academicians, subject experts, and curriculum specialists.for each subject, a curricular area group (cag) is formed to identify suitable experts. this group then constitutes a textbook development committee (tdc), comprising academicians, pedagogy experts, and industry professionals responsible for drafting chapters.the draft content undergoes rigorous internal review and consultation at multiple levels. following this, the material is examined and approved by the cag and the national syllabus and teaching-learning material committee to ensure factual accuracy and suitability for students.industry experts may be consulted for specialised inputs, while government authorities are involved where necessary, though this is not mandatory.ncert officials said textbooks remain subject to periodic review, and committees are formed to examine feedback or concerns regarding content.the textbook currently under scrutiny had over 60 contributors, reflecting the collaborative nature of the development process, officials added.
