Facing CPI resistance, Kerala puts PM SHRI project under review
thiruvananthapuram: facing strong opposition from its coalition partner cpi, the cpi(m)-led kerala government on wednesday decided to put on hold the implementation of the centre's pm shri scheme, days after signing an mou in new delhi.chief minister pinarayi vijayan announced that the cabinet has decided to review the scheme in light of the controversies and concerns raised. a seven-member cabinet sub-committee, chaired by education minister v sivankutty, will study the implementation.the cpi had alleged that the pm shri scheme would promote the rss agenda in the education sector. although the education department initially justified signing the mou to avail central funds, the cpi maintained that joining the scheme contradicted the left democratic front's (ldf) stated policy.vijayan said all further steps would be paused until the sub-committee submits its report, which will be communicated to the centre. the committee includes ministers k rajan, p rajeeve, roshy augustine, k prasad, k krishnankutty, and a k saseendran.the decision has eased tensions within the left front after days of talks between cpi(m) and cpi leaders.rejecting opposition claims linking the mou to his meetings with union leaders, vijayan said such allegations aim to undermine public confidence in the state government.reaffirming his stance on the national education policy, he said kerala would continue to resist “attempts to push the rss agenda” in education.
