Governor yet to give assent for Kalaignar University bill, says TN minister

chennai: tamil nadu governor r n ravi has not yet given assent to the bill passed in the last assembly session to establish kalaignar university in kumbakonam, state higher education minister govi chezhiaan said on friday.replying to a query by v c chandhirakumar (erode constituency) during the assembly's question hour, chezhiaan said the bill, introduced on april 29 during the budget session, seeks to benefit students from kumbakonam and four adjoining districts - ariyalur, nagapattinam, thanjavur, and tiruvarur.“the bill was then sent to the governor seeking assent, but approval has not been granted yet,” the minister noted. he added that the university was proposed after studying the needs of youth in the delta districts, as currently only bharathidasan university in trichy serves eight districts including ariyalur, karur, nagapattinam, perambalur, pudukkottai, thanjavur, trichy, and tiruvarur. chezhiaan also said he would examine the request for a university in erode in consultation with stakeholders.meanwhile, replying to a question on public access to school sports grounds and upgrading schools, tamil nadu school education minister anbil mahesh poyyamozhi responded in english, noting that punjab ministers were observing the proceedings on television to understand state policies. “we always say tamil is for our identity, english is for opportunity,” he said, highlighting the state's two-language policy.punjab's minister for buildings and roads, harbhajan singh, was also present to invite chief minister m k stalin to the 350th martyrdom day of guru tegh bahadur on november 25.
