GSI to hold international seminar in Jaipur to mark 175 years

new delhi: the geological survey of india (gsi) will host an international seminar titled “unearthing the past, shaping the future: 175 years of gsi” on november 20-21 at the rajasthan international centre in jaipur as part of its year-long 175th anniversary celebrations.union minister of coal and mines g. kishan reddy will inaugurate the event in the presence of mines secretary piyush goyal and rajasthan principal secretary (mines & petroleum) t. ravikanth, the ministry of mines said on tuesday.the seminar will be led by gsi director general asit saha and additional director general (western region) vijay v. mugal, and will see participation from senior officials, leading geoscientists, and delegates from india and abroad.founded in 1851, gsi has played a pivotal role in geological mapping, mineral exploration, identification of critical and strategic minerals, geohazard studies, and advancing geoscience research. the seminar aims to deliberate on emerging challenges, technological innovations, and future directions in the field.the two-day programme includes nine plenary lectures, 19 special lectures, and over 300 scientific and poster presentations across 11 themes. experts from global institutions such as the british geological survey, usgs, geoscience australia, and several leading universities will participate.an exhibition on new technologies and geospatial tools will run alongside the seminar. gsi will also sign mous with iit bombay and iit kharagpur to strengthen collaboration in frontier geoscience research and capacity building.
