ICMR-NIRT marks Open School Day to inspire Next-Gen scientists

chennai: the icmr-national institute for research in tuberculosis (icmr-nirt) on friday observed its open school day under the icmr-shine (science & health innovation for the next-gen explorers) initiative, coinciding with the birth anniversary of prof. v. ramalingaswami, a pioneer in indian medical research.a premier institute under the ministry of health and family welfare, icmr-nirt has made significant contributions over the past 65 years through clinical trials, the model dots project and prevalence surveys that have shaped national and global health policies.the icmr-shine programme aims to reach more than 10,000 students across the country through 28 icmr institutes and centres, offering them an insight into biomedical research and its societal impact.the event, targeted at students of classes 9 to 12, featured interactive demonstrations, guided laboratory visits and interactions with scientists and clinicians. students were introduced to ongoing tuberculosis and public health research, participated in experiments and learned how discoveries translate into tangible healthcare benefits.by opening its doors to students, the institute seeks to spark curiosity, encourage careers in health sciences and demystify the world of medical research. all activities were free for participating schools, with students receiving souvenirs and refreshments.
