IIT-M to host plethora of events on Road Safety
chennai: indian institute of technology madras (iit madras) is collaborating with the greater chennai traffic police for road safety month 2024, organized by the ministry of road transport and highways (morth). from january 16th to february 14th, 2024, various events will take place, including short film making, photography, and essay writing competitions focused on road safety.under the theme 'run 5k for 5ks', an awareness run aimed at promoting lane discipline, pedestrian priority, speed limit adherence, helmet usage, and seat belt enforcement occurred on january 21st. additionally, coers volunteers engaged in a road safety flash mob and 'vox pop' interviews at phoenix marketcity on january 20th.high school students nationwide are invited to participate in the road safety essay challenge, themed 'steering towards road safety: my vision for safer roads'. furthermore, photography and film making competitions on 'my life, my safety' are open to participants of all ages. submissions can be made online at https://bit.ly/rsm2024.the objectives of the events include promoting public engagement, providing a talent showcase platform, and sensitizing individuals to safe driving practices. coers, funded by morth, focuses on evidence-based approaches to road safety, advising stakeholders and governments on data-driven strategies. established in 1959, iit madras operates in 17 academic departments and numerous interdisciplinary research centers, aiming to make a positive impact in science and technology.
