India adds record 30 GW renewable energy capacity in FY 2024-25
new delhi: india's renewable energy (re) sector achieved a major milestone in fy 2024-25 with a record annual addition of 29.52 gw, pushing the country's total installed re capacity to 220.10 gw, up from 198.75 gw the previous year, the ministry of new and renewable energy (mnre) said thursday.solar energy led the growth, contributing 23.83 gw—substantially higher than the 15.03 gw added in fy 2023-24. the country's cumulative solar capacity now stands at 105.65 gw, comprising 81.01 gw of ground-mounted projects, 17.02 gw rooftop systems, 2.87 gw from hybrid setups, and 4.74 gw off-grid.wind energy crossed the 50 gw mark, with 4.15 gw added during the year, compared to 3.25 gw in the previous fiscal. bioenergy installations stood at 11.58 gw, including 0.53 gw from off-grid and waste-to-energy projects. small hydro power projects reached 5.10 gw, with 0.44 gw under implementation.inaddition to the installed base, projects totalling 169.40 gw are under implementation, while 65.06 gw have been tendered. this includes innovative solutions like hybrid, round-the-clock (rtc), and thermal + re bundling systems, aimed at ensuring grid stability and reliable power.the mnre, under union minister pralhad joshi, said the momentum reflects india's commitment to achieving 500 gw of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 under the panchamrit climate goals outlined by prime minister narendra modi.
