Madras HC urges to review on validity of Open University Degrees for Jobs

this comes after gopikrishna had his application for an assistant professor position rejected because of his open university degree.gopikrishna appealed against the rejection, and after a hearing with justices r. suresh kumar and g. arul murugan, the court ordered a review. the court highlighted that gopikrishna has the necessary qualifications but raised questions about the order in which he acquired them.according to a government order from 2009, educational qualifications should follow a sequence of 10th standard, plus 2, and three years of a degree program. in gopikrishna's case, he completed his plus 2 after his other qualifications, causing concerns about the order of acquisition.the court emphasized that following the specified eligibility criteria is essential for employment. as gopikrishna's educational qualification did not align with these criteria, the court ruled it invalid for job purposes.acknowledging the challenges faced by those studying through open universities, the court suggested that the central and state governments reconsider their stance on this matter. until then, the court stated it must follow existing laws and dismissed the petition, noting that any relief for gopikrishna would require a change in legislation.
