Nearly 1500 unfilled teaching positions in colleges

chennai: around 1,500 vacant seats exist for teaching posts in 69 government arts and science colleges across the state. according to reliable sources, only 3,500 of the approximately 5,000 posts for teachers are occupied.    speaking to press persons on the eve of their 17th statewide conference titled 'higher education for the poor', to be held in the city on july 4 and 5, members of the association said that it was very important to fill the vacancies to improve the functioning of government colleges.    there are nearly one-lakh students enrolled in the morning shift in government colleges across the state, while there are only 15,000 students enrolled in the evening shifts. the main reason being that most of the teaching posts have been left unfilled and lack proper infrastructure.
