Prof. arrested for sexually harassing UG student in Bengaluru
bengaluru: a 45-year-old professor of a private university in bengaluru has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a 19-year-old undergraduate student at his residence last month, police said on wednesday.according to the complaint, the incident occurred on september 25, when the professor invited the student to his home for lunch. initially, she refused, but he repeatedly insisted and even spoke to her mother, assuring that his wife and children would be present and that she would be safe.the complainant alleged that the professor had earlier spoken to her parents about her low attendance and offered to help her with college assignments. he also suggested that she take accommodation near his residence so she could meet him for academic guidance.trusting his assurance, the student's mother permitted her to go with him. however, upon reaching his residence, the professor revealed that his family was away. despite her hesitation, he convinced her to come inside, saying he wanted to discuss something important.inside the house, he allegedly asked her personal questions, persuaded her to end her relationship with her boyfriend, and promised help with marks and attendance. the complainant said he then touched her inappropriately and sexually harassed her despite her objections.she managed to leave after receiving a call from a friend, but the professor warned her not to disclose the incident, claiming he was “testing her loyalty.” the student later filed a complaint at the tilak nagar police station.“based on the complaint, a case was registered under section 75 (sexual harassment) of the bharatiya nyaya sanhita. the accused professor was arrested and later released on station bail,” a senior police officer said.
