PU reaccredited with A+ Grade by NAAC in 5th Cycle
puducherry: pondicherry university (pu) has been reaccredited with an a+ grade by the national assessment and accreditation council (naac) in its fifth cycle of assessment (2019-2024), marking the highest rating in its 40-year history. this achievement elevates the university among the top central universities in india, surpassing the a grades received in previous cycles.despite facing challenges such as the covid-19 pandemic and the implementation of the national education policy (nep) 2020, the university demonstrated resilience and adaptability. it secured an impressive 3.87 out of 4 in “curricular aspects,” reflecting its progressive curriculum and academic flexibility. pondicherry university was among the earliest adopters of the choice-based credit system (cbcs) and introduced a 5-year integrated postgraduate programme as early as 1992.the institution also scored 3.56 out of 4 in “research, innovations and extension,” highlighting its robust research output and international collaborations. during the assessment period, the university signed 82 memoranda of understanding (mous), including 36 international partnerships.vice-chancellor prof. prakash babu lauded the university community's dedication, stating this accolade reaffirms its commitment to quality, equity, and inclusive growth. the naac peer team commended the university's leadership in nep implementation, including launching 36 nep-based undergraduate programmes and benefiting over 23,500 students.established in 1985, pondicherry university houses 15 schools, 41 departments, and 119 affiliated colleges. looking ahead, the university plans to expand community colleges, enhance international collaborations, and achieve net-zero campus status by 2030.this reaccreditation cements pondicherry university's position as a leading institution committed to academic excellence and sustainable development.
