SI aspirants protest as TNUSRB announces 3,644 constable vacancies
chennai: a fresh controversy has emerged after the tamil nadu uniformed services recruitment board (tnusrb) issued a notification to recruit 3,644 personnel for the posts of grade ii constables in police, prison, and fire departments, even as appointment orders for candidates selected as sub-inspectors (sis) over two years ago remain pending.in2023, tnusrb had announced recruitment for 621 si posts and conducted written, physical, and interview tests, following which results were declared. however, allegations surfaced that the reservation norms were not properly followed, prompting affected candidates to move the madras high court.subsequently, a private commission chaired by a retired judge was formed to probe the issue. the dispute primarily revolves around the alleged irregularities in preparing the merit list for 31% of seats under the open category. candidates claim that the list should have been drawn purely based on marks, without factoring in caste. instead, some top scorers were placed under the adi dravidar quota, causing six candidates from the community to lose si appointments.as the matter remains unresolved, the newly released notification for 3,644 grade ii constables has sparked protests from si aspirants, who have been waiting for their appointment orders for two years.“we cannot accept new recruitment while our future hangs in the balance. we will challenge this notification in court,” the aggrieved candidates said.
